We at St. Luke’s Leprosarium wish you and your family A Merry Christmas and A Prosperous New Year.
Leprosy is still prevalent. Leprosy is a chronic disease by nature. Patients need regular care, attention and rehabilitation. Not only the patients, but their families need care too, to make leprosy patients independent and self-reliant for their future generations.
St. Luke’s Leprosarium, Peikulam, was established in 1954 by Dr. R. Vedabodakam. The 72nd Anniversary of this hospital was celebrated on 21st May 2025 as Founder’s Day, the 137th Birthday of our founder, Dr. R. Vedabodakam.
Our leprosy patients undergo the needed surgeries in other hospitals. Some of them, when needed, are even admitted for ICU care. St. Luke’s Leprosarium, Peikulam, meets their medical expenses.

Donors also support specific projects and schemes based on our needs.
Special classes are taken for students as part of their curriculum. Students from the following colleges visited us:
REHABILITATION CENTRE
There is ongoing agricultural work and sugarcane plantation at the Rehabilitation Centre. We are planning on starting an old-age home or a dedicated psychiatric admission centre based on the need.
The old rehabilitation centre is a 10,000 square feet structure with various rooms. It was used earlier to rehabilitate cured leprosy patients by teaching them various crafts and skills. The building is quite dilapidated now and is in need of renovation. The total cost of renovation is around INR 80,00,000/.
DOCTORS QUARTERS
The doctors' quarters are an old building built to accommodate doctors and visiting dignitaries in the year 1967.
It is one of the three identical structures built by Dr.Rathnam Vedabodakam.
1.St.Luke’s Hospital, Nazareth, Doctors' quarters.
2.St.Luke’s Leprosarium, Peikulam, Doctors' quarters.
3.His own house in Nazareth, which was built in 1943.
The building needs replastering of the walls and roof repair. Depending on the availability of funds, new floor tiling can also be planned.
The cost of renovation is around INR 15,00,000/-.
Kindly pray for our ministry. Kindly share our ministry with your families and friends.
