Most of the children in our hostel are children of leprosy patients. These children attend the nearby Schools. In the early days, due to leprosy's stigma, the public did not allow the leprosy patient's children in this school. Now a few of the children are top in the class, and the school management has encouraged our children to study in this school.
The Foster parent system has been introduced between our home children and the hospital staff. The main objective of this scheme is to develop a good relationship between the children and the staff. The staffs are in the place of parents to the children, during their stay here. The children are taken care by the hostel wardens. If a child commits a mistake, or is very poor in the educational performance, this is taken to the foster parent by the wardens. The foster parents personally meet their children and give advice or help in correcting the child.
After completing the schooling, the children are sent for their higher studies to I.T.I. institutions, Arts Colleges, Polytechnic Colleges, Government Medical Colleges etc.. The Leprosy Mission's Regional Vocational Training Centre at Vadathorasalur gives free I.T.I. Training to the children of leprosy patients. St.Luke's sends their children for this I.T.I training every year. Our Diocese also offers one free seat to our candidate every year in Polytechnic/ Engineering courses at Diocesan Colleges. A few of the children are studying Para medical course's at Government Medical College with merit seats.
Our Children have the needed inputs for their spiritual growth.
We are giving the following extra curricular activities for our Home Children.
