All the children in our support schemes attend regular school. These children attend the nearby Schools. In the early days, due to leprosy's stigma, the public did not allow the leprosy patient's children in this school. Now a few of the children are top in the class, and the school management has encouraged our children to study in this school.
Child sponsorship - Up to 12th standard
Child scholarship - College education
All our children study from home. St. Luke's Leprosarium meets their education expenses.
Sponsorship: For children studying with their parents at native places in school education. Sponsorship can be given in both annual and permanent format. Annual support is of 10,000/- per year. Permanent support is 1,00,000/-, which can also be paid in instalments. Only the interest incurred from the permanent support is used for the education.
Scholarship: Children pursuing their higher education are also supported. Though education of children in higher studies is expensive, we fund the entire education if there is academic excellences and also family's support. This way, there is purpose and motivation for the family and responsibility is shared by the parents as well. The fees may vary depending on the course. Fixed Permanent Scholarship is 3,00,000/-. Only the interest incurred from this amount is used annually i.e. around 25,000/-. Annual Scholarship is also provided at the behest of the donors who are willing to support their once sponsored children into their higher education. The tuition & mess fees details are communicated at request to the donors.
After completing the schooling, the children are sent for their higher studies to I.T.I. institutions, Arts Colleges, Polytechnic Colleges, Government Medical Colleges etc.. The Leprosy Mission's Regional Vocational Training Centre at Vadathorasalur gives free I.T.I. Training to the children of leprosy patients. St.Luke's sends their children for this I.T.I training every year. Our Diocese also offers one free seat to our candidate every year in Polytechnic/ Engineering courses at Diocesan Colleges. A few of the children are studying Para medical course's at Government Medical College with merit seats.
Our Children have the needed inputs for their spiritual growth.
